Erratic business marketing can be a killer. If you are unable to deliver on all platforms with consistent marketing then build up their use slowly as you can take on more.

It is important not to have too many tactics going on at once, it will all appear scattergun, and it will show.

It will also be very tricky to keep up and will mean you’re less able to judge results when you come to reflect back on successes and failures.

1. Consider company style. Remember consistent marketing is key to building up your voice or reputation. You are building relationships with your customers across all platforms, and they need to recognise you on each.

2. Prioritise marketing activities and take the time to utilise each well.

3. Be realistic and plan to give new ways of working time to materialise.

Don’t advertise periodically unless you have a seasonal product. Markets like to see drip drip reminders so that you build up presence over time, which by its very nature is costly and unlikely to show immediate results.

5. If you are struggling for content, involve the whole team. No marketer should be solely responsible for developing content or contacts. Make sure all staff are involved and that they feel able to contribute, even in small ways. You may discover an unexpected diamond.

6. If you are still struggling to find the time or content to develop your brand across platforms, outsource to an expert. Then you can be sure that marketing is always going on in the background, underpinning your future success.
